Audio gauging is a non-destructive test that helps us accurately inspect the hulls of aluminum and steel vessels. This special equipment sends high frequency sound waves into metal structures. The pulses allow us to measure the gauge/thickness of the hull plating, alerting us to problem areas that may be degraded and in need of repair.
Our audio gauge equipment is capable of testing through some fairing compounds and painted surfaces. The hull is mapped with a diagram layout and the testing is completed systematically throughout the vessel’s exterior. Areas of concern will be further tested to help clarify locations and extent of problems.
An audio gauge test requires the vessel to be hauled out of the water and a minimum of one day to complete the process, depending on the size of vessel. Once the hull readings have been taken a report is completed to share the readings, analysis and our recommendations.
